A

The current will not change

B

The current will increase

C

the current will decrease

D

the flux through the coil will decrease.

The correct Answer is:
C

When the iron core is inserted in the current carrying solenoid, the magnetic field increase due to the magnetisation of irotn core and consequently the flux increases.
According to Lenz's law, the emf produced must oppose this increases in flux, which can be done by making decreases in current. So, the current will decrease.

A solenoid is connected to a battery so that a steady current flows through it. If an iron core is inserted into the solenoid, will the current increase or decrease ? Explain.

A tightly-wound, long solenoid having 50 turns cm^(-1) , carris a current of 4.00 A . Find the magnetic intensity H and the magnetic field B at the centre of the solenoid. What will be the values of these quantities if an iron core is inserted in the solenoid and the magnetization I in the core is 4.00 xx 10^6 A m^(-1) ?

    A
Self-inductance of the solenoid gets increased
    B
Flux linked with the solenoid increases , hence steady state current gets decreased.
    C
Energy stored in the solenoid increases, hence steady state current gets decreased.
    D
Magnetic moment of the solenoid gets increased.
