Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Mitochondria are semmi-autonomous organelles. However, mitochondria are not fully autonomous because their structure and functioning are partially controlled by nucleus of the cell and availability of materials from cytoplasm. So, it is more appropriate to call them semi-autonomous organelles. Semi-autonomy of mitochondria is because they have their own DNA which can replicate independently. Mitochondrial matrix possesses its own ribosomes (70S in nature). It synthesises some of its own structural proteins. New mitochondria, develop by division of pre-existing mitochondria.
