Bolting, i.e. internode elongation just ...

Bolting, i.e. internode elongation just prior to flowering in beet, cabbage and many rosette plants, is promoted by

A

auxins

B

gibberellins

C

cytokinins

D

ethylene

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Certain plants show profuse leaf development but reduced internode growth. Such form of growth is called rosette, where a large number of broad leaves remain attached to a very short axis. Such plants exhibit excessive internode growth just before reproduction, the axis elongates 5-6 times the original height of plant and starts flowering. Stimulation in the internode growth just before reproduction is called bolting. if such plants are treated with gibberellins during conditions of rosette growth, the plants bolt and flower. Normally, bolting is favoured in nature by either cold nights or long days.

Internodal elongation just prior to flowering in plants is called as

(A)_____ promotes rapid internode/petiole elongation in deep water rice plants.

Read the given statements and identify the plant hormones X,Y and Z. (i) Hormone Y induces flowering in mango and also promotes rapid internode/petiole elongation in deep water rice plants and hence helping leaves or upper part of shoot to remain above water. (ii) Hormone X promotes root growth and root hair formation. (iii) Hormone Z inhibits the seed germination, increases the tolerance of plant to various stresses, play important role in seed development, maturation and dormancy.

Which of the following functions are concerned with the growth hormone auxins I) They promote flowering in Ananas sativus II) They promote the abscission of older mature leaves III) They induce parthenocarpy in Lycopersicon VI) They are widely used to kill mature monocotyledonous plants

Which one of the plant growth regulator will we use in following causes given below ? I. Bolt a rosette plant II. Enhance senescence III. Flowering in a plant

How many of the following statements are not correct? [I] In a flowering plant the substances that would need to be transported are water, mineral nutrients, organic nutrients and plant growth regulators. [II] Over small distances, substances move by diffusion and by cytoplasmic streaming supplemented only by passive transport. [III] Organic and mineral nutrients undergo multidirectional transport through the xylem. [IV] From the storage organs, organic compounds are later re-exported. [V] Phytohormones and other chemical signals are transported to maintain and regulate the plant functions.

Select the PGR, which promote rapid internode or petiole elongation in deep water rice plants.

Select the incorrect expression with respect to vernalisation I) Winter variety of barley if planted in spring fail to flower in a flowering season II) Biennials like sugar beet, cabbage, carrot are monocarpic plants III) Speeding up ability to flower by low temperature treatment IV) Winter variety of wheat is harvested during winter season
