A 220 volt, 1000 watt bulb is connected across a 110 volt mains supply. What is the power consumed in the circuit ?

A

1000 watt

B

250 watt

C

750 watt

D

500 watt

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

`P=(V^(2))/(R ) therefore R=(V^(2))/(P)=(220xx220)/(1000)=48.4 Omega`
This is the resistance of the bulb.
`therefore` The power consumed on 110 V will be
`P=(V^(2))/(R )=(110xx110)/(48.4)=250 W`
