The reagent used for the separation of Acetadehyde from acetophenone is

A

`NaHSO_(3)`

B

`C_(6)H_(5)NHNH_(2)`

C

`NH_(2)OH`

D

`NaOH-I_(2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

`NaHSO_(3)` gives the addition reaction with Aldehyde and only aliphatic ketone. Acetophenone is the aromatic ketone so it does not give the addition product with `NaHSO_(3)` aldehyde form the addition product with `NaHSO_(3)` which on treatment with acid or base give again aldehyde.
`RCHO + HSO_(3)Na rarr overset(OH)overset(|)underset(SO_(3)Na)underset(|)(R-C-H)overset(H^(o+)or)underset(OH^(Theta))rarr R-CHO`
`C_(6)H_(5)COCH_(3)+ NaHSO_(3) rarr` No reaction
