Assertion: Benzaldehyde is more reactive than ethanal towards nucleophilic attact.
Reason : The overall effect of- `l` and `+R` effect of phenyl group decrease the electron density on the carbon atom of `gtC = O` group in benzaldehyde.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion

C

If assertion is true but reason is false

D

If assertion is false but reason is true

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Benzaldehyde is less reactive than ethanol towards nucleophilc attack. The combined effect of `-I` and `+R` effect of phenyl group is electron donatinf which increases the electron density on the carbon atom of the `C=O` in benzaldehyde.
