The smallest ketone and its next homologue are reacted with `NH_(2)OH` to form oxime.

A

Two different oximes are formed

B

Three different oximes are formed

C

Two oximes are optically active

D

All oximes are optically active

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Lowest ketone is `CH_(3)COCH_(3)` (which form an oxime) and its next homologue is `CH_(3)CH_(2)COCH_(3)` which form oxime with `NH_(2)OH`. Such oxime shows the property of geometrical isomerism i.e., it shows two isomers, symmetric and antisymmetric. (These are differ w.r.t. arrangement towards the space of `-C=N`, their different behaviour, can be confirmed with the help of Beckmann,s rearrangements).

Oxime 'B' shows two isomers-
