In a particular reduction process, the concentration of a solution that is initially 0.24 M is reduced to 0.12 M in 10 hours and 0.06 M in 20 hours. What is the rate constant for the reaction?

The correct Answer is:
`6.93xx10^(-2)hr^(-1)" or "1.9xx10^(-5)s^(-1)`

As `t_(1//2)` is independent of initial concentration, it is a reaction of 1st order. `t_(1//2)=10` hours,
`k=0.693//t_(1//2)=0.693//10" hr"=6.93xx10^(-2)hr^(-1)" or "0.693//(10xx3600)s^(-1)=1.9xx10^(-5)s^(-1).`
