Why are substance like platinum and palladium oftern used for carrying out the electrolysis of aqueous solutions ?

Platinum and palladium form inert electrodes, i.le., they are not atacked by the ions of the electrolyre or the products of electrolysis. Hence, they are used as electrodes for carying out the electroluysis.
