Why does `NO_(2)` dimerise ?

`NO_(2)` is an odd electron (7 + 2 `xx` 8 = 23) molecule. In the valence shell, N has seven electrons and hence valence shell, it undergoes dimerization to form `N_(2)O_(4)`
