What happens when (i) Concentrated H2 ...

What happens when
(i) Concentrated `H_2 SO_4` is added to calcium fluoride.
(ii) `SO_3` is passed through water ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) `H_(2)SO_(4)` being less volatile displaces more volatile HF from `CaF_(2)`.
`CaF_(2) + H_(2)SO_(4) rarr CaSO_(4) + 2 HF`
(ii) `SO_(3)` dissolves in water to form `H_(2)SO_(4)`
`SO_(3) + H_(2)O rarr H_(2)SO_(4)`.
