Which of the following pairs of ions are isoelectronic and isostructural ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Both `CO_(3)^(2-)` (6 + 3 `xx` 8 + 2 = 32) and `NO_(3)^(-)` (7 + 3 `xx` 8 + 1 = 32) have 32 electrons and hence are isoelectronic. Further, both `CO_(3)^(2-) and NO_(3)^(-)` ions are planar and hence isostructureal since both C and N are `sp^(2)`-hybridized.
