Concentrated nitric acid can be stored in aluminium container. Give reason.

When conc. `HNO_(3)` is added to aluminium, a thin protective layer of alumina `(Al_(2)O_(3))` is formed on its surface which prevents further action. As a result, Al becomes passive.
`2 Al + 6 HNO_(3) rarr Al_(2)O_(3) + 6NO_(2) + 3H_(2)O`
