A

Since compound 'X' forms a 2,4-DNP, it must be an aldehyde or a ketone. Since it reduces tollens' reagent, it must be an aldehyde. Since on oxidation, it gives 1,2-benzenedicarboxyolic acid, it must be an o-alkyl substituted benzaldehyde. Thus, the compound is o-ethylbenzaldehyde, i.e., option (a) is correct.
