An organic compound `(C_3H_9N)` `(A)` when treated with nitrous acid , gave an alcohol and `N_2` gas was evolved. (A) on warming with `CHCl_3` and caustiv potash gave `(C)` which on reduction gave isopropylmethylamine. Predict the structure of (A).

The correct Answer is:
A

Since compound `A(C_(3)H_(9)N)` reacts with `HNO_(2)` to give alcohol and `N_(2)` gas, therefore, it must be a primary aliphatic amine. Further, since `1^(@)` aliphatic amine (A) on warming with `CHCl_(3)` and caustic potash gave compound (C) which on reduction gave isopropylmethylamine, therefore, `1^(@)` amine (A) must be isopropylamine, i.e., option (a) is correct.
