Formation of polyethylene from calcium c...

Formation of polyethylene from calcium carbide takes place as follows :

The amount of polyethylene obtained from `64.0kg` of `CaC_2` is

A

7kg

B

14kg

C

21kg

D

28kg

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Adding first two equations , we have ,
`underset(64 g)(CaC_2)+2H_2O+H_2toCa(OH)_2+underset(28 g)(C_2H_4)`
i.e., 64 g of `CaC_2` give 28 g of `C_2H_4`.
From 3rd equation ,

28 n g of `C_2H` gives 28 n g of polythene
i.e., 28 g of `C_2H` gives 28 g of polythene.
