Zine can be coated on iron to produce galvanize3d iron but the reverse is not possible it is because

A

zinc is lighter than iron

B

zinc has lowr melting point than iron

C

zinc has lower negativ electrode point than iron

D

zinc has higher negative electrode potential than iron

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
d

A metal with more negative electrode potential is more easily oxidised than a meta with less negative electrode potential thus zinc with `E^(@)=-0.76 V` is more easily oxidised by `O_(2)` and moisture of the atmosphere than iron with `E^(@)=-0.44 V` and thus protects iron from corrosion with les -ve electrode potential cannot protect zinc with more ve electrode potential from corrosion
