(b) Zona pellucida payer of the ovum prevents polyspermy in humans. It induces changes in the membrane of the ovum to block the entry of additional sperms , thereby ensuring the entry of the sperm inside the ovum . Also , it initiates the acrosomal reaction between the sperm and the egg at the time of fertiliztion .
