Terrestrial animals are generally either ureotelic or uricotelic, not ammonotelic, why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ammoniotelic animals excrete ammonia alongwith very large amount of water (i.e., in dissolved from by diffusion). Terrestrial animals can not afford to lose more water from their body as they live in environment having water scarcity. They, therefore, excrete either urea (ureotelic) or uric acid (uricotelic).
