Shoot apical meristem occurs at the tips of a shoot. It divides and adds new cells towards the axis so that stem is differentiated. Initiation of leaf primordium originates in the apical meristem wruch differentiates into leaf. During the formation of leaf and elongation of stem by cell differentiation and maturation a group of meristematic cells are 'left berund' which constitute the axillary bud. These buds give rise to branches and flowers by cell division and differentiation.
