(a) The cells of collenchyma are much thickened at the comers due to deposition of cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin.
(b) The purpose of such deposition is to provide mechanical support along with the elastisity as well as to maintain living nature of cells. This is because the collenchyma generally occur in the hypodermal region of young dicot shoots.
(c) When collenchymatous cells are exposed to light, they develop chloroplasts and assimilate food.
