Enzyme collagenase breaks the peptide bonds present in collagen protein. Excessive secretion of this enzyme will lead to weakening of which of the following body parts ?
(i) Tendons
(ii) Bones
(iii) Hair shafts
(iv) Nails and claws
(v) Intervertebral discs

A

(i),(ii) and (iii)

B

(i),(ii) and (v)

C

(iii) and (iv)

D

(ii),(iii) and (v)

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Tendons are made up of white fibrous connective tissues, which mainly comprise of white (collagen) fibres arranged in bundles. In intervertebral discs, white fibrous cartilage is present which contains abundant white (collagen) fibres. Similarly, perosteum of bone is composed of collagen. Thus, excessive secretion of collagenase enzyme will lead to the weakening of these structures.

The partially digested food coming from the stomach of a person enters a long and narrow organ A in his body. The organ A receives the secretions of two glands : liver and secretes a greensih yellow liquid B which is normally stored in the organ C. Pancreas secretes pancreatic juice which contains three digestive enzymes D, E and F. The intestinal juice completes the process of digestion of food. The inner wall of organ A has million of tiny finger-like projections G which help in the rapid absorption of digested food into blood stram. The undigested part of food then passes into wider tube H which absorbs most of the water from undigested food. The last part of tube H called I stores this undigested food (or waste) for some time. The undigested food is then passed out though opening J as faeces in the process known as K. (a) Name the organ A. (b) Name (i) liquid B, and (ii) organ C (c) What are the digestive enzymes D, E and F ? (d) Name (i) tube H (ii) part I (iii) opening J, and (iv) process K

The gaps between two adjacent myelin sheaths are called nodes of Ranvier. iv.Myelinated nerve fibres are found in autonomous and the somatic neural systems v. Unmyelinated nerve fibre is enclosed by a Schwann cell that does not form a myelin sheath around the axon. vi. Unmyelinated nerve fibre is commonly found in spinal and cranial nerves
