When temperature is increased from minimum to optimum, rate of phosynthesis doubles for every ____ rise in temperature.

A

`1^(@)C`

B

`10^(@)C`

C

`20^(@)C`

D

`30^(@)C`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Rate of photosynthesis usually increaes with an increase in temperature upto `40^(@)C` Above this temperature. Rate of photosynthesis starts decreasing due to inactivation of enzyme. The minimum temoperature at which most plants start photosynthesis is `0^(@)-5^(@)C` but it can be as low as `-20^(@)C` for lichens and `-35^(@)C` for some gymnosperms. The maximum temperature at which photosyntheis can occur is `55^(@)C` in some desert plants and `75^(@)C` for hot spring algae. When temperature is increaed from minimum to optimum, the rate of photosynthesis fdoubles for every `10^(@)C` rise in temperature.
