B

Charcoal on burning produces carbon monoxide `(CO)`. `CO` has about `200` times more affinity for Hb than `O_(2)`. In combining with `Hb`, it forms a stable compound carboxyhaemoglobin. Because of this compound, Hb connot carry sufficient `O_(2)` to the tissus ultimately leading to death.
