A rectangular container, whose base is a square of side 5cm, stands on a horizontal table, and holds water upto 1 cm from the top. When a cube is placed in the water it is completely submerged, the water rises to the top and 2 cubic cm of water overflows. Calculate the volume of the cube and also the length of its edge.

Here, side of square is 5cm
Height of part of container that is not filled with water = 1 cm
`therefore` Volume of empty part container =`5xx5xx1`=`25 cm^3`
Volume of water overflow when cube placed in water = `2 cm^3`
Volume of cube = Volume of empty part container + Volume of water overflow
Volume of cube = `25+2`=`27 cm^3`
Length of the edge of cube = `root(3)(27)`=`3cm`
