Three solid spheres of iron whose diameters are 2cm, 12cm and 16cm, respectively, are melted into a single solid sphere. Find the radius of the solid sphere.

Text Solution

Diameter of three solid spheres are 2cm, 12cm and 16cm.
So, Radius, `r=d/2`
Radius of three solid spheres are 1cm, 6cm and 8cm
`therefore` Volume of sphere = `4/3pir^3`
`V=V^'+V^('')+V^(''')`
`4/3xx22/7xxr^3=4/3xx22/7(1^3+6^3+8^3)`
`r^3=1+216+512`
`r^3=729`
