A cyclic process performed on one mole of an ideal gas. A total 1000 J of heat is withdrawn from the gas in a complete cycle. Find the work. Done by the gas druing the process `BrarrC`.

A

`-1531J`

B

`-1631J`

C

`-1731J`

D

`-1831J`

The correct Answer is:
D

In a cycle process `DeltaU=0`
`Q_("cycle")=W_("cycle")`.....(1)
Where as
`W_("cycle")=W_(ArarrB)+W_(BrarrC)+W_(CrarrA)`......(2)
Process `CrarrA` is isochoric, hence `W_(CrarrA)=0`
Process `ArarrB` is isobaric, as its T-V graph is a straight line passing throught origin. In an isobaric process, work done is
`W=P(V_(2)-V_(1))=nR(T_(2)-T_(1))`
`W_(ArarrB)=1xx8.31(400-300)=831Jrarr` (3)
`W_(ArarrB)` is positive , expansion of gas takes place, From equaion (1),(2) and (3),
`-100=831+W_(BrarrC)+0`
`W_(BrarrC)=-1831J`
