The mean of 16 numbers is 8. If 2 is added to every number, what will be the new mean?

Text Solution

Given:
n=`16` numbers
Mean=`8`
Let their sum be `x`
`therefore` Mean=Sum of observations/No of observations
`8=(x)/16`
If two is added to each number then the sum increases by `16xx2 = 32`
∴New Mean = `(x+32)/16= ((16xx8)+32)/16`
`=(128+32)/16=160/16=10`
So, the required new mean is `10`
