The mean of 5 number is 18. If one numbers is excluded, their mean is 16. Find the excluded number.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Mean of `5` numbers `=18`
Sum of these `5` numbers `=18×5=90`
Let number that has been excluded be `x`
New mean = `(90 - x)/4 = 16`
Solving this, we get
`90 - x = 64`
`x = 26`
Hence, the excluded number is `26`
