Write the formula of different oxides of manganese. What is the oxidation state of Maganese in each of them ? Arrange them in order of their decreasing acidic character.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`MnO^(+2)O,Mn_(2)^(3+)O_(3),Mn^(4+)O_(2),Mn_(2)^(7+)O_(4),Mn_(3)O_(4)` (mixed oxide of `MnO and Mn_(2)O_(3))`
As the oxidation state of `Mn` increases, the electronegativity value of the central metal ions increase. As a result of this difference in the electronegativity value between metals and oxygen decrease. So the acidic character increase as given below.
`MnOltMn_(2)O_(3)ltMnO_(2)ltMn_(2)O_(7)`
