The radius of iron to be put on the cart wheel is always a little than the radius of the wheel. When the iron rim is heated red hot, its size becomes greater than that of wheel and it easily slips on the wheel. When the rim is allowed to cool, it returns to its original size and fits firmly on the wheel.
