Calculate the ratio of KE of molecule of...

Calculate the ratio of KE of molecule of oxygen and neonj gas at `27^(@)C.`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For neon: it is monoatomic, therefore it has 3 degrees of freedom
`(K.E.)_("neon")=(3)/(2)K_(B)T`
For oxygen gas number of degree of freedom is 5
`therefore(K.E.)_("oxygen")=(5)/(2)K_(B)T`
Hence ratio of their `K.E.=((5)/(2)K_(B)T)/((3)/(2)K_(B)T)=(5)/(3)`
