Let the E field be zero at pointP, a distance x from `2 mu C ` as shown

So, at P, the electric Field due to both the charges must be equal and opposite . Balancing the magnitude of electric Field due to them gives
`(K_(2))/(x^(2))= ( k8)/((12-x)^(2))`
Taking square root of both sides gives.
`(1)/(x) = (2)/((12-x))`
`:. x=4` cm
