Resistance of a conductor of length l an...

Resistance of a conductor of length l and area of cross-section A is R. If its length is doubled and area of cross-section is halved, then find its new resistance.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

initial length =l, Area = A
So, initial resistance `R= rho (l)/( A)`
Final length l' = 2t `, Area `A' = (A)/(2)`
New resistance `R'= rho(l')/(A') = rho ( 2t)/(((A)/(2)))= 4 rho (l)/(A) = 4R`
