Four cells each of emf E and internal re...

Four cells each of emf E and internal resistance r are connected in series to form a loop ABCD. Find potential difference across (1) AB, (2) AC

Text Solution

All cells are connected correctly in series, so net emf `E_(eq) = 4E`
Net internal resistance `r_(eq) = 4r`
So, current l in the circuit
`l = ( 4E)/( 4r) =(E )/(r)`
Potential difference across AB
`V_(A) -V_(B) = E - lr = E- (E )/(r) r = 0V`
`V_(A)-V_(C ) = V_(A ) -V_(B ) + V_(B) -V_(C )`
`= E = lr + E - lr = 0 V `
