Using KVL in closed loop ABCDA
`epsilon= iR + ir`
when `R = R_(1), epsilon= i_(1) R_(1) + i_(1) r ` ….(i)
when `R= R_(2) , epsilon_(2) R_(2) + i_(2) r ` …..(ii)
From (i) and (ii) ,
`i_(1) R_(1) + i_(1) r = i_(2) R_(2) + i_(2) r`
`implies r= ( i_(1)R_(1)- i_(2)R_(2))/(i_(2)-i_(1))`
Also, `epsilon-i_(2) R_(2) - i_(2) r ` [from (i)]
`epsilon= i_(2) R_(2) = = i_(2)r ` [from (2)]
`= ( epsilon-i_(1)R_(1))/(epsilon-i_(2)R_(2))= (i_(1))/(i_(2))implies epsilon = (i_(1)i_(2) (R_(1)-R_(2)))/((i_(2)-i_(1)))`

A battery of unknown emf and internal resistance is given to a student for the experiment. When student connects the battery to an external resistance of 10 Omega then 1A current flows through the circuit and when the same is connected to 15 Omega resistance then 0.75 A current flows through the circuit . Calculate the emf and internal resistance of the given battery.

In an experiment a student measures terminal potential difference (TPD) of a cell. When the same cell is connected to an external resistance of 5 Omega then the TPD is 2 V and when the same is repeated for an external resistance of 10 Omega then the TPD is 2.4 V. What is the emf and internal resistance of cell?

A group of identical cells (all in parallel) are connected to an external resistance R_(1) . Current through R_(1) is i_(1) . Another group of identical cells (all in series) are connected to some other resistance R_(2) . Current through R_(2) is i_(2) . Now one cell is removed from both the groups. Then
