1 g of metal, having no variable valency, produces 1.67g of its oxide when heated in air. Its carbonate contains 28.57% of the metal. How much oxide will be obtained by heating 1g of the carbonate?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
0.477g

`("Mass of metal")/("Mass of oxygen")=("Mass of metal in 1g of carbonate")/(x)`
i.e., x=0.1914g of oxygen
Mass of oxide `=0.2857+0.1914=0.4771g`
