Reduce the following equations to the no...

Reduce the following equations to the normal form and find `p\ a n d\ alpha` in each case: `x-y=4`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`x-y=4`
`implies x/sqrt2- y/sqrt2=2sqrt2`
`implies xcos (2pi-pi/4)+y sin(2pi- pi/4)=2sqrt2`
`implies xcos ({7pi}/4)+y sin({7pi}/4)=2sqrt2`
Thus, `p=2sqrt2` and `alpha={7 pi}/4`
