Find the vertex , focus, axis, directrix...

Find the vertex , focus, axis, directrix and latus rectum of the following parabola: `4x^2+y=0`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given parabola equation is `4x^2+y=0`
Then we have
`X^2=-Y/4`
Now on comparing this equation with `X^2=−4ay`we get
`4a=1/4⇒a=1/16`
Therefore vertex `=(X=0,Y=0)=(x=7/4,y=−2)`
And focus `=(x=0,y=−1/16)`
Now equation of directrix
