Two masses `m_(1)` and `m_(2)` which are connected with a light string, are placed over a frictionless pulley. This set up is placed over a weighing machine, as shown. Three combination of mass `m_(1)` and `m_(2)` are used, in first case `m_(1) =6kg` and `m_(2)=2 kg`, in seconds case `m_(1)=5 kg` and `m_(2)=3 kg` and in third case `m_(1)=4 kg` and `m_(2)= 4 kg`. masses are held stationary initially and then released. if the reading of the weighing machine after the release in three cases are `W_(1),W_(2)` and `W_(3)` respectively then:

A

`W_(1)gtW_(2)gtW_(3)`

B

`W_(1)ltW_(2)ltW_(3)`

C

`W_(1)=W_(2)=W_(3)`

D

`W_(1)=W_(2)ltW_(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Reading of the weighing machine =2T+ weight of the machine
As weight of the machine is constant.
`T=(2m_(1)m_(2))/(m_(1)+m_(2))`
So reading is maximum for the case `m_(1) m_(2)` is maximum as `m_(1)+m_(2)` in all case is same.
