There is a voltmeter in a circuit. In order to triple its range, the resistance of how much value should be used?

A

2R

B

R/2

C

3R

D

4R

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

If R is the resistance of the voltmeter and I current is flowing through it, then
V=IR or `R=V/I`
If now resistance connected in series is R', then
`R+R'=3V/I`
`R+R=3R`
`:. R'=2R`
