Using determinants, find the area of ...

Using determinants, find the area of the triangle whose vertices are (1, 4), (2, 3) and (-5, -3). Are the given points collinear?

Text Solution

We have given vertices of triangle `(1, 4), (2, 3) and (-5, -3)`
Then we have to find area of triangle
Now as we know that
Area of triangle=`1/2|(x_1,y_1,1),(x_2,y_2,1),(x_3,y_3,1)|`
`=1/2|(1,4,1),(2,3,1),(-5,-3,1)|`
`=1/2|[1(3+3)−4(2+5)+1(−6+15)]|`
`=15/2`square units
