First find the three midpoints.
midpoint of `bar(GH)=((-5+5)/(2),(4+3.5)/(2))=(0, 3.75)`
midpoint of `bar(JK)=((-7+(-3))/(2),(3+(-7))/(2))=(-5, -2)`
midpoint of `bar(LM)=((4+2)/(2), (3+(-7))/(2))=(3, -2)`
So the triangle looks like this :

The base is 8 and the height is 5.75, so the area is 23.
