`P_(4)+NaOH undeset("warm")` to Products.
Explaine the reducing character of one of the products obtained by taking the example of copper sulphate.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`P_(4) + 3 NaOH + 3 H_(2)O to PH_(3) underset("sodium hypophosphite")(+ 3 NaH_(2)PO_(2))`
`4Cu^(2+) + PH_(3) + 4H_(2)O to H_(3)PO_(4) +4Cu darr +8H^(+)`
Sodium hypophosphite also acts as a strong reducing agent and reduces copper sulphate to `Cu_(2)H_(2)`.
