The odds against A solving the problem a...

The odds against A solving the problem are 4 to 3 and the odds in favour of B solving the .problem are 7 to 5. Find the probability that the problem will be solved.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`P(A)=frac{3}{7} P(B)=frac{7}{12}`

`P(bar{A})=frac{4}{7} P(bar{B})=frac{5}{12}`

`P(A cup B)=1-P(overline{A cup B})=1-P(bar{A} cap bar{B})`

`therefore P(A cup B)=1-frac{4}{7} times frac{5}{12}=frac{16}{21}`
