In the present set up to the long form of the periodic table we have seven periods (i.e., principal quantum number n=7) and four blocks (s,p,d- and f- block elements ) . Therefore the maximum number of elements which can be accommodated in the present set up of the long form of the periodic table in the accordance with aufbau principle is
`1 s^(2) 2 s^(2) 2p^(6) 3 s^(2) 3p^(6) 3 d^(10) 4p^(6) 5s^(2) 4d^(10) 5 p^(6) 6s^(2) 4 f^(14) 5 d^(10) 6 p^(6) 7 s^(2) 5 f^(14) 6 d^(10) 7 p^(6) = 118`
