In the periodic table, the basic character of oxides

A

increases from left to right and decreases from top to bottom

B

decreases from right to left and increases from top to bottom

C

decreases from left to right and increases from top to bottom

D

decreases from left to right and increases from bottom to top

The correct Answer is:
C

As the ionization enthalpy and electronegativity increase along a period the basic character of oxides decreases. Conversely as the ionization enthalpy and electronegativity decrease from top to bottom in a group the basic character of oxides increases .Thus option ( c) is correct.
