Ammoneium nitrate is an ionic compound it consists of two ions i.e `NH_(4)^(+)` and `NO_(3)^(-)` The O.N of N in the two species is different as shown below
O.N of N in `NH_(4)^(+)=x+(4xx1)=+1 or x =- 3 O.N of N in NO_(3)^(-) =x+3(-2)=- or x =+5`
