Two ice-skaters of mass 120 kg and 200 kg are initially hugging on a frictionless ice surface. Ten seconds after they push off from each other, they are 8.0 cm apart. The distance moved by the skater of mass 200 kg is

A

3.0 m

B

4.0 m

C

5.0 m

D

6.0 m

The correct Answer is:
1

As there is no external force, COM will not change it's position. Take meeting point as origin.

`rArr (120(-x)+200(8-x))/(120+200)=0`
`rArr 1600-320 "x" =0`
`rArr x=5 m ` (position of 120 kg )
position of 200 kg will be (8-5) = 3m
