Car A and car B are both travelling down a straight highway at 90 km/h. car A is only 6.0 meters behind car B. the driver of car B brakes , slowing down with a constant deceleration of 2.0 `m//s^(2)`. After 1.2 seconds, the driver of car A begins to brake, also at `2.0 m//s^(2)`, but this is insufficient and the cars eventually collide, both still moving forward. what is the relative velocity of the two cars at the moment of the collision ?

A

2.4 m/s

B

5.0 m/s

C

9.5 m/s

D

21 m/s

The correct Answer is:
A

`S_(rel)=u_(rel)t-1/2 are l t^(2)`
`=0-1/2 xx2xx1.2^(2) =-1.44 m`
`v_(rel)=u_(rel)-a_(rel)t=0-2xx1.2=-2.4 m//s`

Two cars A and B are moving in same direction with velocities 30 m/s and 20 m/s. When car A is at a distance d behind the car B, the driver of the car A applies brakes producing uniform retardation of 2m//s^(2) . There will be no collision when :-

Why do the brake drums of a car get heated, when the car moves down a hill at a constant speed?

Two cars A and B of equal masses (100 Kg) are moving on a straight horizontal road with same velocity 3m//s as shown. At t = 0 car A starts accelerating with constant acceleration of 2 m//s^(2) (intial separation between car is 25 m ). Choose correct options (neglect length of cars)

Two cars are travelling towards each other on a straight road at velocities 15 m//s and m//s respectively. When they are 150 m apart both the drivers apply the brakes and the car decelerate at 3 m//s^(2) and 4 m//s^(2) until they stop separation between the cars when they come to rest is

A driver of a car A travelling at 54 km//h applies the brakes and stops the car in 4 seconds. Another driver of car B travelling at 36 km//h applies the brakes and stops the car in 6 seconds. Plot speed versus time graphs for the two car. which of the cars travelled farther before stopping ?

Two cars A and B are moving on parallel roads in the same direction. Car A moves with constant velocity 30m//s and car B moves with constant acceleration 2.5 m//s^(2) . At , car A is ahead of car B and car B is moving with 12 m//s velocity . The distance travelled by car B until it overtakes car A is

The brakes applied to a car produce an acceleration of 6 m//s^(2) in the opposite direction to the motion . If the car takes 2 s to stop after the application of brakes , calculate the distance it travels during this time.
